The contract is a massive commitment for Centrol and involves collections from 342 stores with a further 100 possible new outlets opening this year.
The company, which sells value household items, clothing and electrical goods, chose Centrol against fierce opposition from other recycling experts. The retailer made the decision because Centrol could completely satisfy its waste needs without having to rely on third parties. It also demonstrated how it could improve its current recycling figure from 38 per cent to 95 per cent over three years.
Victoria Field, Head of Communications at the value retailer, said: “We are delighted to have appointed Centrol Recycling as our total waste management solution provider. Their proactive and dedicated team has provided effective solutions backed up with comprehensive KPI management to help us achieve our recycling targets.”
Centrol has also been providing Total Waste Management for a car producer and has fought off stiff opposition to have this contract renewed in another long term deal.
Centrol’s External Contracts Manager, Gary Frost, said: “We won the contract on price, innovation and by providing a one-stop service where no middlemen are involved. We are also proud of the fact that the recycling figure for the two plants is 91%.”
Gary, who has over 15 years’ experience in the waste industry, added: “Centrol control’s all the car maker's waste requirements in Luton and Ellesmere Port. All the reporting function goes into Centrol’s head office which promotes more accurate reporting.”
Centrol has continually added value throughout the contract. “We have continually reduced costs by introducing innovations and not being afraid of new approaches,” said Gary. “We have also been able to react to market conditions and support GM through this difficult financial climate.”
